Hi, I'm Olive!

Dad said I should tell you my story. He said it would help more dogs find a nice home with a loving family, just like I did. He promised he would type for me—which is definitely for the best, because otherwise I’d just lie across the keyboard.

I don't remember much about when I was first born, but as I got a little older, something happened and I found myself living all alone. I was hungry, lonely, cold, and wet. Eventually, Chicago Canine Rescue took me in. They gave me a warm, dry place to sleep, delicious food, and fun toys to play with. They even took me to the doctor when I felt sick. Everyone there was so kind to me. I met a lot of dog and cat friends, learned how to be potty trained, and mastered basic obedience (like SIT!).

Then came the best day ever: a family visited CCR and adopted me! Having a quiet, safe place to sleep in my very own home was amazing. Since moving in with Dad and Papa, I’ve learned so many new things. For instance, I discovered that I love veggies—carrots, broccoli, and kefir are my absolute favorites. Veggies are so crunchy and yum! I also love when Papa makes my dinner because he cooks everything from scratch. He did a lot of research to make sure he uses only the healthiest ingredients to keep me strong. He is a really good cook.

I tell Dad that I like learning new things just to make him happy. But to be completely honest? He brings the best treats, and that’s why I listen to him! Every Thursday, we go to Obedience school. I try really hard to be a good girl because Dad only hands out the treats when I pay attention. He says I’m super well-behaved, even though sometimes I want to play with the other dogs in class way more than I want to listen. On Saturdays, we go to Agility class. That one is pure fun—I get to leap over hurdles, run across the teeter-totter, and zoom through tunnels. I am really, really fast!

Besides food and school, my absolute favorite thing is to play outside. I like trying to climb trees while chasing squirrels. They are so quick, and even though I haven't caught up to one I haven't given up hope yet! I also love going to the dog park to run at top speed and meet new friends. On most days, Dad even takes me to work with him. Even when I can’t play while he’s busy, just being near him makes me happy. When we get home after work, I love to play fetch and tug with Papa!

I am so grateful my family adopted me, and I’m so thankful to Chicago Canine Rescue for bringing us together. I don't know what would have happened if CCR hadn't taken me in, but I am so glad they did!

Dad says that if you make a donation, it helps other dogs just like me. I don't fully understand what a donation is, but I think it means more dogs will get a warm bed, good food, doctor visits, and the chance to meet a family of their own.

Maybe a donation is just another way of giving love?
